Researched current needs of below-knee amputees, biomechanics of able-bodied individuals, and previous models of passive, semi-active, and active prosthetic knees.
Completed calculations to ensure proper functionality and used the research to sketch an initial passive knee design.
Designed a mechanism using springs, allowing the user to press the lower knee cap to unlock the flexion position to bend the leg when seated.
Used SolidWorks to electronically design a passive prosthetic knee with higher flexibility and lower cost of technology, resources, and production.
3D printed components and made changes to the design as necessary.
